Eggs, Vodka & a Bass by SHINA RAE

Well thats how the morning of a rockstar should start right? So how did my day start off in such a fashion?
It's this new kick I'm on, you see, pretending I can play the bass. It's actually quite fun. I've done it before.
My highschool friends may recall a breif stint where I enjoyed trying to play my fav bands songs on bass.
I'm sure, I was awesome....or I looked awesome in the mirror.
Then, when I moved to Houston, I was at the Art Crawl (a local showcase of tons of galleries in the city) for a show
and on my way out the door passing by the performing (read: arguing) band the bass player said "Fuck Off'"
and tossed his bass over my shoulder. I tried to return the instrument but the singer/ lead guitar told me it was cool,
and that I could be the bass player for the next song. Me completely apprehensive & him totally desperate,
he showed me a few notes, and, DUH, I totally rocked it.
Soooooo....getting back to my point. I decided a while back that I still to play bass, and the opportunity came up
to play in a friends band at a show that is happening Nov. 8th, and I just jumped in the pool like it was 150 degrees outside.
But this show is MAD CLOSE and I don't wanna fuck it up, like I've had overconfident players try to do before,
so I'm driving up to Atx every weekend until the show to learn/practice for this show we have.
And I had to do something to get the creative juices flowing....since the OJ wasn't doin' it by itself.....wellllllll



So, yeah, just wanted to put in my first review, or whatever
EGGS, VODKA, & A BASS.....GOOD!!! Very Good Indeed.

I'd say it's about an 8 hole laced up Doc Martin, which btw, apparently are totally in style this season.

I HEART NATILE PORTMAN!!!

I always loved her as an on screen talent....not so much for her skills but I always enjoyed watching her work...this takes the cake and gave me a whole new respect for the girl!!

NIKE...AGAIN WITH THE HALLOWE'EN??????

So its that time of the year again....October and hallowe'en are just around the corner...so Of course, beacuse Nike doesnt make cnady or costumes to go out the door on the gouly night, they've decided to capitalize on the festivities by creating a new "Hallowe'en Edition" sneaker for the past few years.

Well first of all, there are WAYYYYYYY to many dunks out there....WAY TO MANY! When nike brought the dunks back in 98/99 I flipped and copped as many pairs as I could. Lows and highs. But since the BIG bring back of the shoe in 02'(2005 is when they REALLY started getting popular) I have seen way too many of them and cant stop wondering why the trend is still on the shelves of every major footwear shop....

Dont get me wrong, its a nice shoe and very easy to freak (low and hi) and there are still a couple of dunks that I would wear out of my closet, But we dont need another fucking hallowe'en shoe...last years candy corn flavored COurt Forces were pushing it but its gone to far....EXPECT a valintines day drop, xmas drop and St pattys day drops all of simalar nature....HERES A SMALL LIST OF WHAT I mean!!!

SOME LIKE IT HOT (dvd release) 1959

Directed by Billy Wilder. With Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon.

I had no idea what I was in for when I picked up this movie from the local Block Buster. The only sense I had about it was that Marilyn Monroe starred in it and that it was an old classic. For reasons beside that I had no clue. When I popped in the movie and got into the first scene I was already in love with the film, the setting of my hometown of Chicago lured me a little bit and the cops and robbers in the traditional sense of the 1920’s played on my heart as well. On top of the “eh copper” and “I aint neva heard of um” style dialogue the plot was hilarious. 2 musicians desperate for money and fame witness a multi mob murder and end up running away, dressed as two women for a gig in Florida. Along the way One falls for the beautiful Monroe, and the chase from the MOB to wipe out the witnesses never stops. With witty comedy and over the top sarcasm, “Some Like It Hot,” had me rolling!
The best thing about the movie was the way that the director and writers captured the 1920’s attitude and dialect of the south side Chicago Mobsters, along with the multiple scenes of outlandish cross-dressing references and subtleties
There wasn’t too much about this movie that I could complain about, the fact that it was Black and white and filmed in the late 50’s might turn some off from the movie, or that since, all the jokes and plays on words have been used over and over again. But if you put yourself in the seat of those who first saw this film in its time, you can’t beat it!
Great acting, hilarious script, over all a timeless piece of movie history!

PARANOID PARK (DVD RELEASE)

Paranoid Park is a recent Gus Van Saint FIlm that follows a nervous and nauxious young teen around a murder mystery. Set in Portland Oregon with a strong focus on the real Burnside skate park and its culture.
THe first thing that I have to say about this movie is WOW! Inredible film and editing work! Especially in the audio dept. The Soundtrack is all original and underground Portland area music and the overdubbed, almost constant, noise that is somehow musically transformed into ballots during these tweaked out slow motion cuts is CRAZY! I could care less about the acting which was sub par and the story which was ok, but the contrast and angles that Van Saint used were Brilliant. I learned alot from watching this movie and others might be upset with the high praise that i'm giving it, but truely the amount of thought that went into this not so complex movie was great! If your from Portland Check PARANOID PARK, and if your not, I would only reccomend this film to people with an eye for art and are not too worried about blockbuster type events!!

STREET KINGS (DVD RELEASE)

ahhhh Hood movies after midnight! always goes good with popcorn and ju jubes....
anyways, Street Kings is the story of a LAPD cop (Keanu Reeves) who is being looked at by internal affairs and sold out by his ex partner. Soon Bodies turn up and the cameos roll in, including The Game, Common, Cedric the Entertainer and more. Forrest Whitaker plays the Captain of the unit and Chris Evans the scary white boy rookie whose earning his stripes.
Aside from the predictable plot and Terrible Acting from both the Rappers and co-stars, it wasn't a total bore....there's some good dialogue and one liners that had me rolling! Forrest Whitaker tells this cat in one scene to "wash his mouth out with buck shot!" it killed me.....All in all its a good movie to make out to and catch the main parts inbetween tounge and trying to get to 2nd base....I'm def glad I got in in the mail on my blockbuster joint instead of checkin it in the theatres......

DISCLAIMER...COMMON IS HARD AS HELL IN THIS FLICK....HAD ME ROLLLLLING!!! I LOVE THAT DUDES ACTING!!!! LOL

BURN AFTER READING. (cohen bothers)

It is very rare that I come out of a movie in such question, that i myself am not even sure if I liked the movie or hated it. The Cohen Brothers new edition to great achievements comes as a bit of a shock.... The all star cast (Pitt, Clooney, McDormand...etc) are what save any sense of the plot that surrounds the characters . Although all the elements of a slapstick style comedy are there, the way that it is brought towards a laugh, just doesn't quite catch it. The fact that everybody is being followed by everybody in the movie, you'd think would provide enough reason for pants pissing and swore cheeks, however, the jokes are a bit used and the emphasis on them misses by a long shot. The directive style is nice and the over use of gore and violence is completely uncalled for, but stay true to the Cohen style of blood and guts. Once again, this movie is a case of preview-itous..., where if you've seen the preview, you've seen the movie. Definitely did not live up to the hype.
